Safeguarding Policy

Safeguarding means protecting a person’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect. Everyone has a responsibility to safeguard people in their care, but extra care must be taken to protect those who are least able to protect themselves. Children and young people, and vulnerable adults, can be at particular risk of abuse or neglect.

Lifeboat Perinatal Mental Health CIC is committed to the protection of all children and vulnerable adults. We believe everyone has a responsibility to promote the welfare of all children, young people, and vulnerable adults to keep them safe and to practise in a way that protects them. We give equal priority to keeping all children and young people safe regardless of their age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.

The overall mission of Lifeboat Perinatal Mental Health CIC is to raise awareness of anxiety and depression related to pregnancy and birth. We empower and upskill frontline workers through quality training and promote understanding in local communities through awareness initiatives. Our ultimate goal is to help reduce mental illness in new parents.

Equality and diversity are very important to Lifeboat Perinatal Mental Health CIC’s values.

We therefore give due regard to the need to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation, to advance equality of opportunity, and to foster good relations between people who share a relevant protected characteristic (as cited in the Equality Act 2010). The following are also relevant: European Convention on Human Rights, UN Convention on Rights of the Child and UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities. This policy will therefore not discriminate, either directly or indirectly, on the grounds of the nine protected characteristics (age; disability; gender reassignment; marriage/civil partnership; pregnancy & maternity; race; religion & belief; sex; and sexual orientation).
